A cereal yield response function is estimated conditional upon environmental and topographical features to detect the effects of spatial heterogeneity and spatial dependence in explaining agricultural productivity across Sub-Saharan Africa. Controlling for direct and localized spillover effects, we then estimate the effect that projected changes in temperature and precipitation as a result of global climate change will have on agricultural production. We find that the estimated declines found in the climatological literature may overestimate actual declines, and factors such as spatial heterogeneity (i.e., country fixed effects) are profoundly more important to agricultural production.

Since 1973, British Columbia created an Agricultural Land Reserve to protect farmland from development. In this study, we employ GIS-based hedonic pricing models of farmland values to examine factors that affect farmland prices. We take spatial lag and error dependence into explicit account. However, the use of spatial econometric techniques in hedonic pricing models is problematic because there is uncertainty with respect to the choice of the explanatory variables and the spatial weighting matrix. Bayesian model averaging techniques in combination with Markov Chain Monte Carlo Model Composition are used to allow for both types of model uncertainty.

Using data at a high spatial resolution, we estimate a cereal yield response function conditional upon climatological and topographical features using a recently developed estimator for spatial process models when sample selection is of concern. We control for localized spatial correlation in unobserved disturbances affecting both the selection to plant cereals as well as in the resulting conditional yield response. We find that cereal yields across Sub-Saharan Africa will decline with increasing temperatures resulting from global climate change, and that failing to control for sample selection leads to underestimation of these adverse effects.

Este documento plantea un modelo econométrico que permite cuantificar y simular el impacto de las políticas macroeconómicas sobre el desempeño agrícola de los principales cultivos de la agricultura nacional, clasificados en importables (trigo, arroz y maíz amarillo duro), exportables (café, algodón y azúcar) y no transables (papa). Una de las principales características del modelo es el uso de especificaciones econométricas dinámicas basadas en modelos de corrección de error para variables cointegradas.

Agricultural land protection near the urban-rural fringe is a goal of many jurisdictions, including British Columbia, Canada, which uses a provincial-wide zoning scheme to prevent subdivisions and non-agricultural uses of the land. The paper proposes developing a trade model for salmon to assist in discussions and negotiations of current international salmon trade issues and major risk problems facing the salmon industry. The aim of the present paper is to analyze the relationship between exchange rates changes and prices of main Brazilian exports, the exchange rate pass-through. A varying-parameter model was used to estimate the coefficients of pass-through. The results suggest that incomplete pass-through of exchange rate changes is a pervasive phenomenon. These results are in line with other estimates presented in the literature.
